In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it was the top-streamed track during the course of 6 months. It was a mixture of reggaeton, pop and rock not only brought renewed interest to reggaeton, but also attracted attention towards Latin music in general. In Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two songs mostly of Spanish languages, while the year the year 2016 featured four. The Despacito album reached its peak chart-topping success in 2017 19 songs mostly composed in Spanish made it to the top 100. It climbed to 41 by 2020. In the wake of Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, popular artists began to collaborate with reggaeton performers. Drake and Bad Bunny worked together on MIA (2018), while Madonna collaborated with Maluma on Medellin, 2019 A few performers of reggaeton lamented the trend towards popular music by 2020.
