April Ross
April Ross is only one of the few beach volleyball players who have earned medals at least twice in an Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days, she'll be aiming to claim her third Olympic medal alongside the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross is also hoping to win her very first Olympic gold. As she is 39, it may be her last shot. The athlete is optimistic she will be able to win top awards. Ross on NBC Boston, said that If the team is performing consistently or well they could win a gold. "I'm planning to test some luck." Ross was born in 1982 in Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents and sister. At Newport Harbor High School, she played in a variety of activities. Along with the indoor game, she also played basketball and jogged track as a pre-collegiate athlete. She clearly was the top at the sport of indoor volleyball. In her time at the high school level, according to her college biography she played as a middle-blocker, outside-hitter and setter. She was awarded one of the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the year in 1999 due to her accomplishments. The skills she showed in volleyball also earned her the Orange County Athlete of the Years trophy in 2000. Ross and Klineman are performing their roles from 2017. The reality is that Ross was an important player in the world of beach volleyball before joining the duo. It's true that she's won multiple big tournaments and one of them was a volleyball superstar. Jennifer Kessy was her partner for six years, from 2007 until 2013. She also coached Klineman and herself. Kessy and Ross were a formidable force in the international circuit, winning the world championship in 2009 with each other. In 2012, the duo took silver in London's Olympics. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor clinched gold beating them to it. The fate of the matter was that Ross turned out to be Walsh Jennings' new partner when May-Treanor retired. They won the bronze medal in beach volleyball at Rio Olympics 2016. Ross began her collegiate professional career playing for the Trojans of USC following her high school days. It was a long time before Ross went to the sand and turned pro. Her time at USC was quite impressive. In 2000 she was named Pac-10 Freshman and NCAA Freshman Of The Year, and was also an All-American. In 2000, her Trojans also reached the Final Four. Her heart was broken by a tragic incident in her sophomore years, yet she went on to be an All-American in her second year. Through her last two years in the program she led the Trojans to the summit of the mountain by winning two successive national titles. Ross was an excellent volleyball player and won the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the most outstanding female volleyball player in the NCAA. Ross majored in the field of international relations in USC. Margie Ross wasn't able to see her daughter's climb to fame as a beach volleyball player. As of 2001, when Ross was a sophomore studying at USC her mother passed away from breast cancer. Ross holds her mother very dearly. Margie has been an inspiration in her life and on the beaches.
